Jake Adams will be re-visiting and manipulating his latter work called "Friends" for the exhibition entitled "CART" by the wonderful Current Gallery in Downtown Baltimore. This exhibition will allow him to finally complete his vision for the artwork. One key component was left out when he thought he finished it before. That component being the selling of personal information (Demographics) to buyers. The opening night of this exhibition will take place on July 9th (further information will be given later). Artist Statement

The Human mind persistently strives for a constant instinctual desire for balance and equilibrium… Through my own struggles I found that one must self-affirm them-selves and confront their emotions from every new perspective gained. Visually my work does just that. In such a lens it’s constantly changing, while certain characteristics remain the same. These constant elements represent the positive self-affirmed attributes that originally came from a negative moment. Both positive and negative moments manifest directly from my very own Emotional Map of Recovery through FTC (Form, Texture, Color). The map works as a pictorial function for my brain. Each positive and negative moment translates into a feeling. These feelings come in three introspective categories on the map. The first category contains feelings of space. The lot of which translate into forms. The second category embodies feelings of mood, which translate into textures. The final section instills feelings of emotion, which translate into color. The process works as follows: I choose the feeling that I am experiencing at the present moment before the start of a piece. The second step involves meditation on that feling. During the meditation I attempt to transform the feeling into a different category of space, mood, or emotion. When the selection stage is complete I begin to create the object I felt based on the timeline of feelings I engaged. From this process I am able to physically and mentally express a self-affirmed emotion through a balanced visual language. Within that I am perging the impending notion of becoming, through the vast agglomeration of mixed media.

Jake Adams lives and works in Rochester, NY and Baltimore, MD. As an artist, deliberate consideration for beauty and the way in which it moves the individual marks every step of his creative process. In other words, the value of beauty is one determined by all human beings – not simply one viewer. Furthermore, this unique and infinite value of beauty is the fulcrum about which the lever of Adams’ paintings delicately balances.
Labels are dangerous. Words and signifiers reside in a futile disconnect with what is visual, sensory, or visceral. Adams believes that art should acknowledge this basic truth. A holy artifact of immense religious significance or an African wood sculpture of female fertility is next to meaningless when removed from its specific context and viewed by simple, ambivalent eyes or on the shelves of Pier One Imports and marketed for posh domestic décor. Adams’ work is highly aware of the treachery of labels and context and is richer for it.
The artist, in order to achieve success in any capacity, must form an intimate relationship with form, color and texture. These are the tools of communication for the artist; the vessels for that which is imperative and trenchant. Simply put, they are what is seen and what is seen is the most cardinal concern of the visual artist. Although it is an elementary concept the process and aim of art often cloud this vital relationship with seeing. This scopophilic love of seeing is one that Adams’ work not only resides in but also shares intimately with the audience.
All of these concepts deeply inform the work of Jake Adams. His attention to them and how they affect the work could account for his drastic changes from series to series. The art is in constant flux yet always remains an extension of these basic ideas.
